Have you ever done something or created something and forgot that you did it? Then something triggers the memory and you get excited by it.
That happened to me this year a couple weeks ago with a student who loves stories. His love of stories reminded me that I rewrote the lyrics to Turkey in the Straw, and my mother, Beatrice Powell, had illustrated it.
When I started looking for the originals, I found many other paintings tied to different stories. My mom passed away in 2021. There is so much joy in her work that I want to share it with you.
Context to make sense of the Turkey in the Cave: you only need to know a few things. First, Red Giant is descended from the fee-fi-fo-fum Giants, they're the ones that used to grind bones to make bread. Red giant just likes cooking, delicious food but sometimes makes other things that are strange. Purple Dragon, another character in Musicland, breathes fire. He's a nice dragon. He also flies. It goes without saying, turkeys don't want to be eaten.
The Musicland Series of stories is now available as a digital download on the piano key finder site. I'm still trying to figure out how to categorize products to make finding things easier. It's easier to teach piano lessons than to figure out websites ;-)
The Musicland Series is a group of nine - sixteen page booklets that introduce music to young children. The series works as a standalone six to eight week program for 4 to 8 year olds. I've used it for group classes, which require little preparation.
These stories are adorable and need to be shared. The illustrations are lively and delightful. Students love the different characters, and the stories are joyful.
These are all studio licensed digital downloads, you can use them with your students in your studio. (please don't email them or share them outside of your studio) The Turkey in the Cave is my Thanksgiving gift to you.
